Clouded yellow

An exceptional summer.

We are planning a three-part ‘Wilder Nottinghamshire’ * podcast series ‘Drier Nottinghamshire’ in the autumn on reflecting on the impacts of the weather excesses of 2026 including prolonged drought and heat on species and habitats.

An unexpected visitor..

For all the losers, there have been winners as well.

For the first time a beautiful clouded yellow butterfly joined us. They’re probably migratory carried north by the hot summer.

A butterfly we’d only ever seen during a cliff walk in Brighton, Sussex and had seen as far too exotic to ever reach us.

Fortunately seen during one of our National Garden Scheme walks.

  • Our ‘batcast’ with Nottinghamshire Bat Group drops on Sunday 9 August 2026.
