Totally tomatoes..

Such a hot, dry summer.

Such desiccated ground.

The heat has, however, proved beneficial to courgettes, squash and tomatoes.

The variable water content in the soil has contributed to some losses with blossom end rot: the tomatoes rot from the end of the fruit.

But they soldier on producing small but tasty crops as follows so far:

Potato leaf 1.56kg

Alicante 0.485kg

‘Greenhouse’ (mixed varieties up!) 3.65kg

Total so far: 5.7kg

Juicy!

When not included in salads or cooked with olive oil the crop will be roasted with onions and rosemary for freezing as tomato sauce to be included in soups and casseroles.

The vegetables and tomatoes total weight so far this year is 108.kg -

which, when added to soft fruit and apples brings the total so far to 135kg or over 21 stones from the garden.
