Garden butterflies 2025

Male common blue on bird’s foot trefoil.

Nationally, 2024 was the poorest year on record for butterflies and bumble bees.

Small skipper on lavender

We haven’t recorded any rare butterflies, but it has been fascinating and delightful to watch so many dancing in and over flowering lavender, buddleia Davidii and marjoram or racing through the meadow. A glimpse of what gardens would have been only a few years ago..?
